Abstract.
The presenter will highlight a project supported by JICUF, which developed an educational approach using the power of songs to establish connections through art with social topics and to share a strong message for building a more inclusive and equal society. The project plan for the spring term consisted of 5 workshop sessions and one main artistic event. In all workshops, students learned to sing songs in Spanish, about vocabulary, and reflected on storytelling related to the songs. The workshop engages students in discussions on SDGs, learning to sing in Spanish as the central theme for each workshop, and taking in university events aimed to promote peace through education. One of the main findings refers to the use of music to foster intercultural understanding and reflections on peace topics in a university setting in Japan, which participants well accepted. In this opportunity, we will report the student's opinions about sustainable goal number 5, connecting to the well-known song "Chiquitita". The goal of the pedagogical plan was to generate deep reflection about achieving gender equality and empowering all women and girls, as a fundamental human right, crucial for building a more peaceful and sustainable world. Finally, there will be time for feedback about this approach and to reflect on the importance of understanding other cultures, languages, and identities in shaping a global vision for the leaders of future generations.
