Abstract
Photoinduced reorientation of photoreactive nonliquid-crystalline polymeric (PNLCP) film is investigated based on axis-selective photoreaction combined with in situ modification of mesogenic side groups using a microwave oven. Co(polymethacrylates) with cinnamic acid (CA) and 4-formylphenyl benzoate (PA) side groups are synthesized. In situ condensation of PA and 2-aminofluorene molecules after linearly polarized UV light exposure of a PNLCP film produces significant molecular orientation of CA and formed N-benzylideneaniline derivative (FL-NBA) side groups. The oriented film exhibits dichroism of 0.8 and birefringence of up to 0.38.
