The burgeoning fields of spintronics and topological electronics require materials possessing a unique combination of properties: ferromagnetism, metallicity, and chemical stability. SrRuO3 (SRO) stands out as a compelling candidate due to its exceptional combination of these attributes. However, understanding its behavior under tensile strain, especially its thickness-dependent changes, remains elusive. This study employs machine-learning-assisted molecular beam epitaxy to investigate SRO films with thicknesses from 1 to 10 nm. This work complements the existing focus on compressive-strained SRO, opening a new avenue for exploring its hitherto concealed potential. Using soft X-ray magnetic circular dichroism, we uncover an intriguing interplay between film thickness, electronic structure, and magnetic properties. Our key findings reveal an intensified localization of Ru 4d t2g-O 2p hybridized states at lower thicknesses, attributed to the weakened orbital hybridization. Furthermore, we find a progressive reduction of magnetic moments for both Ru and O ions as film thickness decreases. Notably, a non-ferromagnetic insulating state emerges at a critical thickness of 1 nm, marking a pivotal transition from the metallic ferromagnetic phase. These insights emphasize the importance of considering thickness-dependent properties when tailoring SRO for next-generation spintronic and topological electronic devices.

本研究では、Fe50Pd50-xNix(x=6, 12, 25, 38, 44)の混合粉末を6GPaの高圧下で高圧ねじり(HPT)加工を行い、巨大ひずみを導入して固溶体状態のバルク状に固化した。続く熱処理で L10 構造の規則化を図った。X線回折(XRD)で規則相生成を確認し、振動試料型磁気力計(VSM)で保持力や飽和磁化を測定した。また、光電子顕微鏡(PEEM)を用いて試料表面の組成分布、磁区構造を調べた。これよりFe50Pd50におけるPdのNiによる置換がどの程度可能かについて検討した。

イオンを利用した新規有機発光デバイスである電気化学発光セルの発光メカニズムを明らかにするため、オペランド軟X線光電子顕微鏡により、電圧印加によって発光した状態での電気化学発光セル中の構成イオンの分布の可視化を試みた。この手法が成功すれば、電極間に生成される電気二重層の構造が明らかとなり、電気化学発光セルの高効率化・長寿命化に結び付くものと期待される。

BL17SU軟X線ビームライン（理研・物理科学ビームラインⅢ）のAcステーションには、分光型光電子・低エネルギー電子顕微鏡（Spectroscopic PhotoEmission and Low Energy Electron Microscope: SPELEEM）が設置されている。光電子顕微鏡は表面から放出された光電子の空間分布を数10 nmの空間分解能で直接可視化できる電子顕微鏡の一種である。BL17SUの高輝度軟X線とSPELEEMの高い空間分解能を組み合わせることで、試料の微細構造、組成分布、電子状態、磁区構造を取得することができるため、これまでレアメタルフリー磁性材料から、グラフェンエレクトロニクス、あるいは惑星科学の分野まで、幅広い分野で活用されている。本稿では、SPELEEMの基本原理について述べた後に、最近行った主な高度化について紹介する。

土壌中に存在する放射性Csの除去あるいは減容化に向けた基礎研究として、粘土鉱物中のCs吸着状態の解明が極めて重要となっている．本発表では、非放射性Csを人工的に最大2 wt%吸着した粘土鉱物（バーミキュライト）微粒子（数十μm以下）の放射光光電子顕微鏡（PEEM）によるピンポイント化学状態分析の取り組みを紹介する．

Graphene is the promising material for the next-generation devices owing to its novel electronic property which is governed by “slow” relativistic quantum theory. The theory tells that pseudospin responds to pseudoelectromagnetic field emerged by strain. In this paper, we have studied the pseudoscalar potential in epitaxial graphene grown on microfabricated SiC substrates (<i>μ</i>-EG). It is clarified by low-energy electron microscopy and Raman spectroscopy that pseudoscalar potential emerges in <i>μ</i>-EG due to interfacial strain, and is controlled by the microfabrication pattern.

The observation method of photoemission electron microscopy (PEEM) on insulating samples has been established by introducing simple Au pattern evaporation equipment. Surface conductivity is induced locally on an insulating surface by continuous radiation of soft x-rays, and Au films close to the area of interest allow the accumulated charges to be released to a ground. Using this technique, all usersʼ experiments on poorly conducting samples have been performed successfully at the PEEM experimental station in SPring-8.
