Nippon Cataloguing Rules (2018 Version) (NCR2018) was applied in NACSIS-CAT in October 2024. The Institute for Assistance of Academic Libraries (IAAL) has long provided support for NACSIS-CAT users. However, the application of NCR2018 differs from previous revisions in three key aspects: most catalogers lack training in the new rules, diverse employment types, and fewer systematic training opportunities. In response, IAAL has developed multifaceted support. This paper reports on these specific initiatives, analyzes the current state of NACSIS-CAT as it reaches its 40th year of operation, and presents the author's perspective on challenges such as stagnation in holdings registration and declining awareness of the Catalog Information Service.
